Well, not quite but it was 40 years ago this year that it all began.
Classic Hits Forest Gold was launched in 2002 to cater for patients at St. Margaret's, Brentwood and Saffron Walden Community Hospitals in Essex UK.
We are a part of Radio Forest Community Broadcasting, a charity organisation that has been broadcasting since 1978 (registered as a charity with the Charity Commison in the UK ( Reg. No. 277847)). Our sister station, Forest One broadcasts exclusively to patients and staff at St. Margaret's Hospital in Epping, Essex.
Since we launched Forest Gold the feedback from patients and staff has been tremendous. We recieved many requests to make our service available outside of the hospitals so patients could continue listening to Forest Gold from home. Since 2010 Forest Gold has been available online and we now welcome everyone who enjoys our mix of good time oldies.
We have no paid staff and are run by a team of over fifty volunteers. An elected committee consisting of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Administration Manager, Finanance Manager, Technical Manager, Programme Manager and Fundraising & PR Manager run the organisation on a day to day basis. The charity is self funding and all money raised goes directly to provide the services we offer. You can see our latest reports and financial accounts at the Charity Commision.
We are always please to hear from people who would like to help. We rely on donations and fundraising as well as a dedicated team of volunteers. If you would like to find out more about what we do and even how you can get involved, click here to get in touch.
